Semi driver arrested after deadly crash on Interstate 94

FARGO (KFGO) – A semi driver from Ontario, Canada has been arrested for negligent homicide following Wednesday’s deadly semi collision on I-94 west of Mapleton, North Dakota.

According to the State Patrol, the 52-year-old Yuhai Zhu was not hurt in the crash. He had slowed or stopped on the interstate while pulling a trailer with anti-freeze used to de-ice airplanes.

Zhu’s rig was struck from behind by another semi hauling heating and air conditioning equipment.

The second semi caught fire and between 65-hundred and 67-hundred gallons of liquid de-icer leaked from the punctured trailer. Work to clean-up the site is continuing.

The 72-year-old man who died was from British Columbia.
